It's possible this has been up for discussion allready, but I haven't seen it so....

Anyway, Me and some friends have been trying to find out what Bacchante is...We've heard so many different versions and interpretations by now, we're all confused.. Does it have anything to do with Bacchus, and whether it does or not... what is the song about?
I know that Bacchante is a celebration for Bacchus. Bacchus is the god of wine.

Maybe somebody else knows a little more?

My dictonary says that bacchante is a celebration for bacchus, the god of wine.
Baccus is probally a pagan god. I also found out that bacchus gets victims to drink his blood to become bacchae which are basically vampires, all female. The go out and bite other victims and then bring them to bacchus for him to give them his blood.

As has been said before Bacchus is the Roman God of wine (and vegetation)
Every spring a festival was held in his honour, with tons of drinking, etc.
Also, there's a myth of the Bacchanites, who followed Bacchus wherever he went, (celebrating, of course) and rumor has it, that whoever he desired, joined this wild celebration.
The women of this procession were called Bacchantes, and apparently they were smitten with a mad frenzy whenever they were near him

This is most probably wrong, but that's what I know about the Bacchantes.

Bacchante is a Follower of Bacchus. Bacchus is the God of Wine and that Sort of Stuff. The Rest is in Roel's latin Book.

Type O Negative has a song called "In Praise Of Bacchus" on the album " October Rust".... just thought I'd add that since they are also one of my favorite bands.
