Blame it on Within Temptation...Someone (can't even remember who) sent me a few WT mp3s to sample, and I liked them so much, and wound up using one of those 'similar artist' features on Audio Galaxy...and came up with ToT and all the others...and just went from there...no worries, I buy cd's too so no piracy discussions...or threats...or whatever...lol First one was actually Fragment, and then Rose for the Dead...

When I did my national service in Germany on 1997, a friend there told me he was listening a lot of bands I could not love. So, I asked him to make me listen one of them. It was "Velvet..." on a tape !! I loved it so much that my friend was very astonished. Then, I discovered for the first time so beautiful melodies, voices and stories... and "Theatre of Tragedy" was the second one I listened ; it was the revelation for me !!! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.theatreoftragedy.com/board/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

i used to work at an underground record store, and we were one of the 1st places in sweden to import stuff like TOT, so it came naturally for me listen to new music. up to that time the only other band i knew of that sounded similar to them was The Gathering... thank god (who?) for the guy who owned the store, he brought me into a completely new world of music. this was wayyy back when the 1st TOT album came out... must've been... 1994?! 1996? whatever.... i've been listening to TOT from day 1! <!--emo&B)--><img src='http://www.theatreoftragedy.com/board/html/emoticons/cool.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='cool.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I had seen Theatre of Tragedy's "Musique" in stores and it just jumped out at me. I had seen the band listed on various websites and decided I had to check them out. Now, these websites were "metal" websites so when the first track started I was very surprised. I liked it (since I like techno and whatnot) but i was surprised. I then got Assembly and started my way backwards from there.

My now ex-boyfriend introduced me to Theatre, and I was fascinated right away. This must have been 6 years ago now. I first heard the Aegis album, and I fell in love right away. I like their new more industrial sound, I'm not so much into their old stuff except from Aegis. <!--emo&:)--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I got into Theare of Tragedy a few years ago, shortly after I had discovered The Sins of Thy Beloved, the band which lead me on to investigate the Gothic Metal genre a bit further. I can't remember where exactly I heard of Theatre of Tragedy first, but I downloaded a couple of tracks and liked what I heard, the rest is hisory. <!--emo&:D--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It was in 2001 I think ... I can't remember exactly the date but at that time I was on a forum, but I spent most of my spare time on the chat related to this message board and among all the chat users, there was a nice girl ... we shared a lot of our music impressions & feelings, then she told me she loved singing so she recorded herself through a bad quality microphone and she sent me the file. It was Venus. I was completely astonished by her singing and the beauty of the melody, so I decided to learn more about this band <!--emo&--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/heart.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='heart.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It is old! A lot of threads are dinosaurs around here it seems.

Well, I remember clearly my first connection to ToT. I was an undergraduate at University in 1998 and I taped 'Lorelei' off a national metal radio show here in Australia that I used to listen to. I was already into Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride etc, but I was amazed by the dual vocals and overall atmosphere of Theatre of Tragedy.

I got hold of a Century Media compilation with 'Seraphic Deviltry' and I was hooked. I then picked up 'Aegis' and shortly after that 'Velvet Darkness They Fear' and those two albums are still in my alltime favourites to this day.

I was disappointed with the style shift as I'm not really into industrial/modern metal of that particular kind, but I'll be forever in love with their earlier work.

Way back when, when I was in 8th grade. I started becoming more and more involved in Internet chat rooms and I met this boy in one and we began conversing via IM. A year or so later, I was informed by him that there were two songs that reminded him of me and these were, a distance there is and lorelei...I looked 'em up and I was hooked.

This band was my initial hook into all of the music I later became fond of when conducting a bit of further exploration. <!--emo&:shocking:--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/shocking.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='shocking.gif' /><!--endemo--> <-I really like this little critter by the way.

Hello, everybody,
I guess it`s a nice topic to start with and join the board. Actually I wanted to do it before holidays and greet everybody in here, but my connection to internet had failed.
This is the 6th year I am in love with ToT <!--emo&:in_love:--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/in_love.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='in_love.gif' /><!--endemo--> . My friend who introduced me to the world of gothic doom unfortunately now despises even the idea of that. So, no friend of mine at all shares my views upon music. And though I am absolutely alone in my choice, in no way it makes feel wanna give in!
The first song by ToT I heard was "The rose for the dead". Then I got an awful tape record of the band`s first album and enjoyed it months though before purchasing "Velvet Darkness They Fear" that was nearly a shock. Since then I`ve been collecting the albums that have further on formed the treasury of my music collection!

I remember that.

First hearing Black as the Devil Painteth like 4 years ago. I wish sometimes I could totally erase a band from my head so I could discover them again and all would be new.

1998 - My Brother listened to "Therion", "Napalm Death", "Cannibal Corpse" etc.
I hated that kind of music, thought it was pointless and without any melody.
Then I heard a beautiful female voice with a much more beautiful melody and some scary growls - It was "A Hamlet for a slothful Vassal", I loved that song and "Tanz der Schatten"
I didn't even know what the name of the Band was, but I just loved it (I was 11 or 12 years old at that time)
And then I forgot about the Band...

2004 - My Brother moved away to study at an University and totally forgot about his Metal-Roots (He listens to R'n'B, Hip-Hop and Rap now <!--emo&--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wacko.gif' /><!--endemo--> )
We moved to another House and I found a box with some old MP3-CDs and listend to some of the songs.
At that time I started to listen to "Within Temptation" etc. and read about their Ancestors "Theatre of Tragedy", which were also part of the MP3-CDs.
I listened to the two Songs again and just loved it, it was a warm feeling I embraced as I remembered the past.
I did some research and bought the "Platinum Edition"-Box with their first three records, which were very unusual, heavy and sad. I fell in love with them.
After some research I found out about "['mju:zik]" and "Assembly" and bought them.
At first I didn't even recognized them.
The music was fresh, catchy, funky and sooo cool <!--emo&:heart:--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/heart.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='heart.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:icon_mrgreen:--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='icon_mrgreen.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:thumbup:--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbup1.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='thumbup1.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Now I am an addict and cannot listen to anythingelse then Gothic-Metal and Indutrial-Rock!!!!

TOT made music about past times with their first three records and now it's about the future and I think it's very cool, because theres nothing more boring than our present times <!--emo&;)--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I got into Tot when a friend of mine hit his head on a poster of Tot breifly after an ill-fated stagedive. We had to check them out then. I asked around for what they sound like (I don't have internet), and someone told me they sounded like Draconian and Tristania, two of my favorite bands. I got a freind to look them up. I fell imediately in love, but the connection between the death-metal band and this one never did arise - Who put that poster up in the first place?
