I have to vote for Assembly - the production is really good, all the instruments are clear, there's space for the electronics and the overall sound is just awesome. And I'm not saying that it's my favorite album (Musique is) <!--emo&B)--><img src='http://www.theatreoftragedy.com/board/html/emoticons/cool.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='cool.gif' /><!--endemo-->

IF the band ever re-releases the previous albums, they should do something about S/T.

Oh, and I think Assembly probably has the cleanest production although I haven't really noticed any problems with production on any of the cds (even Theatre of Tragedy).

more than 6% for the first album! <br>I hope it's a joke!<br>The prod is ok, but, i thnik some must have misunderstood the question.<br>You're not asked wich ToT you prefer...<br>Me, i say Aegis:<br>Really clean, equilibrated soft production! A great word from Mister Effeney (sorry for scorching the name).<br>Really impressive.<br><br>But, i've to say that "assembly" also have a real good production, but i put Aegis before cause it seems to me more homogene.

I have voted for "Velvet Darkness they Fear" even if I must say that it's nearly at par with "Aegis" ... but in the complex, thought like album and not like single songs , my favorote remain Velvet <!--emo&:)--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I don't know why everyone seems to like the production of Aegis <!--emo&:blink:--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='blink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Sorry guys, but "Poppaea" for example sounds as if it's from the 80's.
Like something "The Cult" would have recorded, it sounds like "Rain" by them...
Well, I think the cleanest and most organic sounding album is "Velvet Darkness they fear", just listen to "On whom the moon doth shine" with it's beautiful strings and you think it was recorded yesterday.

I was disappointed by it having fewer electronic elements and horrible production, however.

Yes, you are right -_- . There are many interesting electronic moments but "wall of guitars" cover it <_<

It is a very common trend to produce albums with crappy quality. Some consumers are awed when they hear such sound like "Storm" has, they think it's more "powerful". Also, most people find louder sound better - but this is only a temporary feeling, cause the brain gets tired of it really fast (it interprets such sound as white noise).
Find Iron Maiden "Powerslave" album (not the remaster from 1998 or 2002, the first CD edition) and listen to it for a minute. Is the sound not powerful? Sure it is! Do you hear all instruments? Yes, all instruments get their space and are perfectly audible.
Now listen to anything released recently. The sound is always muddy (recent Paradise Lost albums, Velvet Revolver, Iron Maiden "Dance of Death", last Billy Idol's release, latest Stratovarius, and so on) and loud as hell.
It's usually not the fault of the producer. It's not the fault of the mixer. It's the fault of the mastering dude.

Thankfuly, some albums are still produced and mastered well. For example, take a look (or a listen) to David Gilmour's "On an Island". It's recorded at -3dB -- it's silent! But what are the volume knobs for? You make it louder. And the sound just floats... your ears will cherish each second... your brain will produce tons of serotonin ;)

Search for "loudness wars" on google, there are plenty of articles on this subject, with great visual examples of how the sound wave looks today and how it looked before. And no, today's sound quality has nothing to do with it being 100% digital - if someone wants to kill an analog recording, he'll do that (Iron Maiden remasters from 2002 - they suck, the sound is flat and annoying).

Kind of off-topic here, sorry ;)

Can't vote :(

Storm has the weakest production of all, unfortunately :( I love the album, but the sound quality is driving me nuts...

Can't vote either, would've loved to vote for "Assembly" instead of "VDtf"
