I was a bit shocked to log in and find this news. I haven't heard the last album, but I still listen to some of the older records still today. It's been a great journey, and I thank the band and everyone here in the forums (though I haven't been around for a few years). Hopefully, I'll catch one of the live shows!

I'm distraught. Suddenly it's like everything makes sense, like in those horror movies, like a really mean ending twist. Not only that, it's such a terrible timing as I have to pay for a lot of things. October is not that close, but not too far enough. Let's hope for the best as I really would like to see the whole band this time, if only for the last on the stage. :'(

@Kain: Do you remember when I said you should come over on October 2nd?
Now you know...

And nice to see you again PAZ!

You can still continue to like the music they have created.

Maybe we all should meet each other at the last gig in Stavanger in October?
Some kind of last forum user meeting and we could all say farewell to the band in person and have a drink with them or two.
It's a really good idea... I'm going to think about it and see
how I can book tickets from France and what are exactly the dates.

I'd like a DVD too ;( So I could cry in peace my beloved band... And waiting them back.... Hope never dies...

I very rarely post here, but I've been around for some years and I have to say I'm very surprised by the news. I will definitely be making an effort to attend the final gig in Stavanger (in spite of the fact that I don't speak a word of Norwegian!).

The gig is on October 2nd.
And I'm sure I can organize tickets for everyone here with the help of the band. I guess that should be slightest problem.
I think I will open a last gig thread soon and we can talk about details there.

You know what? I kind of knew it since September, when I first heard Forever Is The Word. It sounded so much like "let's make an epitome and bid a last goodbye". Beside this, the front cover and the "this title will gain more meaning in time" quote on an interview kind of made me sure. This is why I was so determined to go to one of their concerts regardless of where it could be. Before the dates were announced I had even told my mother I would probably go to Norway if they didn't come any nearer. In spite of this, though, I'm crying: the fact that deep within I expected this to happen doesn't do any better. It's too early to tell now, but I'll try to be in Stavanger for the last gig.

And yep, I want a DVD too.

I've just read this bad news and I can't help but to feel sad :( :(
Theatre of Tragedy has been my favourite band ever and I really don't know how to manage without their music..
I can't believe it yet..
I'm from Italy, but I've never had the chance to see the band live. So I'll do my best to buy soon the tickets to fly to Norway on 2nd October.
I am really speachless.. :(

For Me Theatre of Tragedy was the First Atmospheric Metal Band which I had heard before I start to listen to atmospheric metal. My Cousin Marina gave me the chance and the pleasure to discover and feel their unique sound. After All these years I believe that Theatre of Tragedy is the band that created a personal music style which many bands wanted to play exactly just like Theatre of Tragedy .The combination of Women vocals with Brutal (or Death Metal) vocals and the mixing of heavy metal with classical music was a characteristic mark about what was going to happen in the future of Heavy Metal.Theatre Of Tragedy are the inventors and the creators of this unique sound. For example, check how many Atmospheric Metal Bands do exist today.
One of the best nights of my life was when I saw them LIVE.I won't forget their glorious concert in Greece at December of 2005.I won't forget the moment which I had met the band after the event and I won't forget the nice chat that I had with the band .I hope to enjoy this wonderful concert night again
However it is sad that the curtain will fall after the 2ndOctober Of 2010.... :( :(

I don't want to sound like an asshole towards the guys nor like I'm neglecting them, since I do know they are 5/6 of the band and extremely important in everything, but... I just really, really, really hope that we'll hear more music from Nell even after the split. As a solo, with The Crest or whichever way she feels like expressing herself through music. It would be a way too hard blow to lose one of my favourite bands and voice at once. .___.

Now that I've collected my thoughts a bit, I have to say I don't think I've ever been this distraught about a band calling it quits. I can understand the reasonings and part of me really hopes this is an elaborate and early April Fool's joke. The music has been the soundtrack to my many ups and downs. The band members are people I can call friends rather than just been a fan of. The admins have been like family to me (fuck it, they are family). Everything revolving around this band has made its mark not only on my life but has become a part of me. I'll miss it dearly. I've walked away with friends for life (members, admins, and board members included). What this band has done for me indirectly has no measure.

However, I'd much rather see it end this way than a slew of bad albums and a slow, painful and sterile demise. Better to burn out than fade away.
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

Wow, that was quite a bomb to drop. Unlike some of you, I didn't really see it coming. However, in retrospect ...and forever is the world did give some clear signs :(

I agree with most of you. This band was the first i really listened to when I became interested in metal some 8 years ago. I can't say I have a relationship with any of the band members, but this forum has always been a special place although I regret I haven't become more regular and made deeper friendships. And to imagine it has 'produced' 2 marriages, that's pretty awesome. I also agree with Ambro, it's a decent way to end the band.

Master, your idea of mass-attendance of the Stavanger-gig sounds very appealing. I have never seen the band live, so this could surely be a memorable debut. It's definately an idea to explore!

What an awful news.. :(
I knew it would happen after listening to 'Forever is the World', had some sort of a bad feeling. :(
I never saw you live but I would do my best to go to a Stavanger gig or some other gig in Europe, but PLEASE - make a DVD!
After so many beautiful years, a decent live DVD including songs from all eras is a must. :)

ToT, thank you for all those beautiful albums and all your music which definitely is part of my life.
I have only one wish -> "just don't fall asleep" ;) Hope to hear all of you in some other future projects,
especially Nell - you have one of the most beautiful voices ever and please never stop singing :)

Wish you all the best with your families, carriers, love you and hope to see you live,

N.

Is really sad know about it.
I don't know what to write, is a sad day. One of my most important influences in music is coming to an end. I remember the firts day I listened ToT, I bought the first cd and listened in my house, the first song " A Hamlet for a Slothful Vassal " and everything changed, well raymond is the greatest vocal for me and I shall carry this influence for the rest of my life, if I hadn't listened ToT maybe I never had a band now. I have all cds and I would like to see ToT here, in Brazil, is so hard to someone brings them.
Is sad but your music and your spirit shall be forever in my heart and in fan's heart and I hope that someday you make a reuniun and play here.
Good lucky with your future and new ways.

the last tragedy.....

i am really sad but i understand this decision, it s so hard to live by the music and to be with his familly and to do his job, i have the same problem with my band, theatre will be forever for all the fans of gothic music "THE" reference.

Today the Frenchs fans have"Le moral dans les godasses" (I translate for the webmaster ;) and the others...) Maybe a DVD containing footage of the band members having a nostalgic (drunk if possible) talk about the band's history. I'd buy it :D

Wow, I'm not sure what I should say. I came to the website to see what the release date for the Addenda EP is. I really was shocked to see the announcement that the band has decided to end. I have been a fan of all the band's albums! At least we have all their music still. It will just be sad to not get any more new material from them in the future. I recently bought FITW and I love it, it reminds me of Aegis and Storm. I was really hoping they would continue but I do understand the reasons. Family life is important. I can only wish for a reunion in the future maybe or maybe new projects to come from such a talented group of musicians.
