Can I take a stab at figuring out what happened that changed ToT's music?
 Umm.. let's see...
 Line-up changes, perhaps? New people bring new ideas into things. I've never heard a band that sounded exactly the same after bringing in a new guitarist, drummer, bassist, singer, etc...
 
 Times change, people get older, people want to try new things?
 After a band's been in existence for a few years, they're NOT going to have the same sound as they did when they first debut. Well, not that I've seen, anyhow.
 
 They just wanted to try something different?
 "OH, SHIT, NO!!!! They don't have the right to change something with THEIR OWN BAND!!! Who the hell do these people think they are?"
 Most of these critics use fancy phrases, words etc, to mask what they're really thinking, but the shit they say is so transparent. Essentially, they're just running off the same quote as I put above, albeit a friendlier appearance.
 
 That's just a guess on my part though.

If there's one thing Theatre of Tragedy (and Raymond most specifically) has made me realize it's that lyrics are such a small part of song. These Assembly lyrics are so...weird...but it really doesn't sound bad at all. The band makes it work. I think that's a pretty strange realization -- that lyrics are unimportant if th music fits. I wonder if that was a goal?

Just not edited thoughts...
 
 I like nice and long lyrics, to be able to read something good also...
 ...but some of the new ones are 5-6 lines... (this is a bit crap isn't it?)
 Music is good, but as I've seen quitar is used less and less as time goes... I wonder if in 10 years there will be a quitarist in the band...! :{ Didn't like the mess up with the voice... brutal voice together with an angel one was sooo good... too bad this does not happen anymore... :evil:

There is also more usage of Liv's voice as I'm observing... I dunno... I think that almost every good band is getting crap after having lots of success...
 And, LiquidThorn, maybe they didn't HAVE the guts to make a 2nd Aegis-like album... They weren't in a comfortable position as it shows...

That is cool that you love the old style ToT Hungry! I first fell in love with the song "Seraphic Deviltry." It was the very first ToT song I have heard. I don't think you should call them a "crap band" because a lot of old fans(like myself) love the bands new stuff. It is really about moving on...it is hard to let go of such beautiful melodies as the ones of old ToT songs but the new ones are beautiful too!
