Well, once more I have to say that I like the very new style. And I'm trying to go a bit behind, though I might be very wrong.

I think, this *is* what had to follow after Assembly if ToT wanted to stay themselves. Ummmm.....how to express this? Let's start from the very beginning.

We know the oldest Albums - ToT's Childhood: Theatre of Tragedy, A Rose for the Dead and Velvet Darkness... - yup, they were nice. Sweet somehow. We loved the contrast between coochie-coo Liv's angelic voice and biiig baaad Ray who growled like the root of all evil. . But somehow I have the feeling that they still could do better. Some songs still felt very...umm...raw. A little touch of I-don't-know-what was still missing.

Aegis followed. Raymond replaced his growls, the music became more melodic and everything was softer and more into Harmony. You could hear that they *did* practice and work a lot with this little masterpiece. They added some more of I-don't-know-what. Already this change brought some people up, who predicted the end of the world. However... Well, it was Aegis which made me fall in love with ToT. The first work I heard of them, and IMHO still the best one.

Well, Musique was a radical break. The child ToT had its puberty. They distanced from their childhood and made a radical turn. Some of you will remember what was going on here after they released it. I (these days an absolute Doom-Metal-Kid) was shocked to death when I heard the first samples and almost cried. And I was not the only one. Like a grandma when her grandchild is not a little cutie anymore, but a rebel.
Our MoT and some forum members tried desperately to fight against the rioting masses and tell the world why Musique is okay. And that it's the Band's decision, not actually the fan's. But ennerving thread after thread was opened about the shittyness of Musique. They were predicting the end of ToT and the world and everything else while looking for "alternatives" like Tristania and Darkwell and all these, and everybody was pissed off. The lovers as well as the haters.
Today, btw., I got a better additude towards Musique, but it's still not my favourite album. But I have to admit: It was all-in-all well composed.
While stating these times that Musique is Kiddiepop today I say it's a proof that they became adults. But it felt cramped to "We need something new, no matter what!" - well, real puberty, eh?
Then.....Assembly was released. The continued search for the new ToT. Though it was still very electro, it was an improvement to Musique, more into harmony and I-still-don't-know-what. And you could taste the guitars a little more. I liked Assembly from the beginning, and - guys - nothing is better for car driving .

Liv got out of the band. It shocked me, but now I think it was a good decision. Something makes me feel that Liv is still stuck at her baby shoes. Probably her solo works, sounding ... ... ... shallow and cheap. (Some might have read what I think about it... )
Now - we'll get the new albums, we have a new singer and we know the samples, do we?
I think, it's kind of getting back to Aegis, but you can now feel some influences of electronic sounds. The best pieces of those two sides are brought together. Like a good wine it has finally worked out from sweet juice to something strange to a tasty wine. Goes well with poultry - And everything works out fine, seems to be where it belongs, and it's close to perfection. The moods have calmed down, everything seems kinda relaxed. The different flavours sum up in harmony. Well....ToT became adult.

Okay. This is just my two cents, and maybe it's complete bullshit - what do you guys think?

Greets,
Eva

I used to think that having doom metal works and the electro ones, ToT were going to make something mixing both styles, and they have done it. And I'm glad for it, altough right now I'm liking more the new work of Liv's "Leaves eyes" than the two new samplers of ToT: Time'll say. Let's wait and enjoy the music
